Only two families have owned Best’s since 1866, and the second one, the Thomsons, bought it in 1920 for ten thousand quid (best deal in Australian wine history?).
A century later they’re five generations deep, and dad, Viv, has more than sixty vintages under his belt. His son Hamish started out as a kid scrubbing barrels and pruning vines, and is often on the road telling the family story. They are one of Australia’s most storied vineyards and this week we’re dipping into their archives and pouring a very special bottle of Best's 2011 Jimmy Watson Award winning Bin.1 Shiraz, alongside their sparkling Shiraz, Pinot Meunier and Riesling.
